As we do some thinking about how what we read inspires or influences what we write, I thought it might be fun for you to check out a website I've seen that analyzes a bit of your own writing and tells you what published author your writing is similar to.
I tried it with one of my blog posts and evidently I write like Dan Brown. I know who that is, but I haven't read any of his books. Interesting. I also found this interesting tidbit which confirmed my suspicions that there wasn't much heft to this particular tool, but hey...
Go to I Write Like and try it yourself.
Go to the ProProfs What Famous Writer Are You? quiz and try that one.
Leave a comment on this post telling us your results (and what you think of them) when you do. You might have to look up the author for more information if you don't recognize the name. The ProProfs quiz said I write like our very own Missouri native Mark Twain. Hmmm...
According to "I Write Like" I write like Oscar Wilde. According to ProProfs, I write like James Joyce. Both of those people are Irish poets. Me too I guess.
ReplyDeleteI Write Like...
ReplyDeleteStephanie Meyer and Stephen King
Which Famous Writer Are You...
Ernest Hemingway
I write like Stephen King
ReplyDeleteThe famous writer that I am is C.S. Lewis
Using the "I Write Like" and using my writing from the post "The Disappearance of a Girl," I write like J.D. Salinger. I don't know what it is with me and authors with two initials and then their last name (J.K. Rowling).
ReplyDeleteFor What Famous Writer Are You? quiz, I got Ernest Hemingway.
Another odd thing is that I've read nothing from either of these authors that I've been compared to. Personally, though, I'd rather not be compared to another famous author. I'd like to just be considered by myself, as my writing is my own and unique to my imagination. Comparing myself to others is something I already do, and that brings down my self-esteem, and I'd rather not have the same thing happen with my writing.
From the prose analysis, apparently I write like Cory Doctorow. I have never read anything of his, but he appears to be a Canadian journalist and science fiction author. Cool.
ReplyDeleteFrom the quiz I got William Shakespeare. That's pretty s to the weet. I hope that it is correct.
I write like David Foster Wallace. I have never heard of them. And then the writer that I am is also Mark Twain, I guess I've heard his name a time or two.
ReplyDeleteI write like Vladimir Nabokov, I have never heard of him or read any of his pieces but feel like I might have to read one. The writer that I am is Ernest Hemmingway.
ReplyDeleteOn I Write Like... I got the author Charles Dickens and for the quiz I got Ernest Hemingway. I feel honored to be compared to writers that are so well known and amazingly talented.
ReplyDeleteI write like Cory Doctorow? I didn't recognize the name but it seems like he writes cheesy "suspenseful" novels for young teenagers....so, yeah. On the quiz I got Ernest Hemingway which sounds more like it to me.
ReplyDeleteApparently I write like Anne Rice.
ReplyDeleteFor the first quiz I got Chuck Palahniuk, who I have never heard of before. From the recommend books, it looks like he writes creepy novels, which I do not write. For the second quiz I got Ernest Hemingway and I can kind of see what they are getting at. Attention to details such as surrounding and characters is very important and a sense of good overcoming evil.

ReplyDeleteErnest Hemingway, "...You are a normally introverted person, but your stories are the best way for you to express your thoughts to the world." I sometimes think like this, I honestly have to have to find someone who agrees with my views before I speak out about them.
ReplyDeleteOn I Write Like, I got William Gibson. He is a speculative fiction novelist. He has some sweet quotes too, so that's cool. The quiz gave me Mark Twain. He's made quite a name for himself, so there is definitely worse people to be like.
ReplyDeleteaccording to i write like i got David Foster Wallace and i got mark twain from the quiz
